LIST YOUR LEARNING STYLE.
MY SCORES:-
ü  Auditory- 50%
ü  Visual-25%
ü  Tactile-25%

My learning style is Auditory learner.

                          About Auditory-
v  If you are in auditory learner, you learn by hearing and listening. You understand and remember things you have heard. You store information by the way it sounds, and you have and easier time understanding spoken instruction then written ones. You often learn by reading out loud because you have to hear it or speak it in order to know it.
As an auditory learner, you probably hum or talk to yourself or other if you become bored. People may think you are not paying intention, even though you may be hearing and understanding everything being said.
Here are some things that auditory learners like you can do to learn better.
Ø  Sit where you can hear.
Ø  Have your hearing checked on a regular basis.
Ø  Use flashcard to learn new words; read them out loud.
Ø  Read stories, assignment, or direction out loud.
Ø  Record yourself spelling words and then listen to the recording.
Ø  Have test question read to you out load
Ø  Study new material by reading it out loud.

Do you have any strong preferences learn a certain way? If so, what are they?
·         Activity. Involve themselves fully and without bias in new experiences. They enjoy the here and now and are happy to be dominated by immediate experiences. They are open-minded, not sceptical, and this tends to make them enthusiastic about anything new. Their philosophy is ‘I’ll try anything once’.
·         Pragmatists - Pragmatists are keen on trying out ideas, theories and techniques to see if they work in practice. They positively search out new ideas and take the first opportunity to experiment with applications.

2-Write one paragraph that discuss how my learning style works. Use three examples from own life and academic experience.

I want to describe about my learning style works from own life and academic experience. Firstly, I think about my idea and the ideas present to my friends. I always discuss with some people like teacher and some friends about my idea. I accepted they comment and I always positive with them. Because I know not all of my ideas can be used by them.

TOPIC 2-TIME MANAGEMENT

What is goal setting?
-Goal setting is a process for thinking about your ideal future and for motivating yourself to turn this vision of the future into reality.
-The process of goal setting will help you where you want to go in life.

Failing to Plan

 is the same as

Planning to Fail

Think of a goal as your final destination, if you don’t know what your final destination is, there is no way to plan on how to get there.

TOPIC 2: MEMORY LEARNING AND IMPROVING
CONCENTRATION

Why you need to learn study skills?

  • Study skills or academic skills or study strategies are approaches applied to learning.
  • Study skills not ONLY  helps you succeed academically, It WILL also help you do well in life.
  • WITHOUT effective study skills you will become overwhelmed and discouraged.

BRAIN VS MEMORY

BRAIN

  • The brain is the physical place.
  • Brain is part of visible, tangible world of the body.

MEMORY

  • Memory allows us to remember facts and experiences.
  • Consist of encoding, storing information, and retrieval, making that information available for recall.
  • When we see or experience something, it leaves a trace in our brain.

What is learning?

  • Learning, unlike memory, it's NOT about storing information. BUTLEARNING IS A BEHAVIOR.
  • Learning is about acquiring information, memory about storing it.
  • In a way, you could say that learning is a process, and memory is the record of the process.

A) Understanding Memory Processes : Computer Analogy

  • Encoding / input (computer - keyboard, camera; human - the 5 senses: ears, mouth, nose, skin, eyes)
  • Storage (Computer - hard disk, thumb drive; human - 3 types of memory - SM, STM, LTM)
  • Retrieval / output (computer - computer screen, printer; human - writing, talking)

UNDERSTANDING MEMORY PROCESS

Doing well on exams requires an effective study plan, active study strategies and a good memory.
'Having a Good Memory' - involves both putting information into memory and getting it back out - both storage and retrieval.
Why do we forget? How do we learn? Many students really don't understand how memory works.
Learning about how we store and retrieve information will help you understand why some study strategies work and others don't.
This theory is called Information Processing Model.

INFORMATION PROCESSING MODEL

Recall

  • Weakness to recall the information of long-term memory is synonym as "forget"
  • The ability of the brain can improve through various stimuli, advice, nutrition, exercise, training, practice and taboo.Spiritual practices including prayer, worship, and taqwa can nourish and activate brain cells

How forgetting could occur?
  1. Did not pay attention to the information
  2. Did not understand the information
  3. Cramming (last minute study)
  4. Did not have good strategies

Memory strategies

  • Memory strategies refer to any of a broad set of techniques that are designed to help one remember.
  • Such strategies range from everyday, external aids (e.g. using a planner) to internal memory strategies (e.g. mnemonic devices) that facilitate storage and retrieval from long-term memory.

B) Memory strategies (How to Improve Your Memory)

1.Massed practice vs Space practice

The different between massed practice and space practice is the time. For the messed practice, study all material at one time, the person don't have time to understand, remember, organize the reading materials because short-term memory (STM) cannot sustain many information at one time. This different to space practice, it involves space time over some period of time for studying.Taking breaks between learning sessions allow you to think and organize the information because space practice allows the time for the information to consolidate in the long-term memory (LTM). So that I recommend to do the space practice.

2.Break reading material down
  • (again no cramming ) for some period of time e.g. 2 chapters per day not all chapters a day before the exam.
3.Rehearsal
  • Repeat the information many times.
4.Elaboration strategies
  • Associations : To associate, or "connect" each word or event with person, place, thing, feeling, or situation, e.g: vertical vs horizontal
  • Acronyms / catchworde.g. MAS - Malaysian Airlines System; UiTM - University Technology MARA
  • Acrostics / catchphrases : e.g. NASA, one could remember the catchphrase No Astronaut Stays Around

PLACE : AL - BIRUNI 1
TIME : 08.00 - 11.00 AM

TOPIC 1: TAKING EFFECTIVE  NOTES
TOPIC 2: ACADEMIC INTEGRITY AND PERFORMANCE

TOPIC 1: TAKING EFFECTIVE NOTES

What is notes taking?

💙 Writing down ideas from lectures and readings in our own words.

Why take notes?

💙Helps us to pay attention in class
💙Helps us study for quiz, tests/ final exam
💙Helps our to improve our memory
💙Helps us organize and process data and imformation
💙Helps the lecturers test student on how well they captured given information

Why review notes?

💙 We lose 80% of what we hear if it is not reviewed within a few hours
💙Identify any question for peers, the next class, or to ask the lecturer
💙There is not enough time to absorb all the information given in class if it's not reviewed on a regular basis
💙Think : "If I were tested on this lecture tomorrow, would I ace it?" Make it so!

Why "recapture" notes after class?

💙Frees you up to write in quick, shorthand during class
💙An excellent test-prep strategy for reinforcing information
Better than re-copying, this time you're digesting & rephrasing

GREAT FOR KINESTHETIC LEARNERS
CAN CATCH ?? S, GAPS, LOOKN-UP WORDS
PROMPTH HIGHER LEVEL QUESTION
SAVES HOURS OF STUDYING AND REVIEW THE DAYS BEFORE TEST

INTRODUCTION QUESTION

What materials do we need?
